As Reform Jews we stand together for justice, in solidarity with Palestine. We unite in our values to call for a ceasefire, the release of hostages, and an end to US military aid to Israel.

As Reform Jews who strive to live by the values of asot mishpat (enacting justice) and ahavat hesed (loving mercy), we have come together to call on our movement to engage in solidarity with Palestine; to resist, and to repair. Together we stand in these values to call for a ceasefirethe release of hostages, and an end to US military aid to Israel.

As Jewish people with an understanding of justice and a history of being persecuted, we remain motivated by humanity, dignity, solidarity & collective liberation. We look to allies and leaders across identities who continue to take action in an aligned stance including Rabbis4CeasefireIf Not NowAdalah Justice ProjectJewish Voice for Peace and beyond. We seek an inclusion of our viewpoints within the Reform world as valid statements in an ongoing dispute.

We envision a Reform Jewish movement that stands against hatred and violence, that actively centers the voices and narratives of Palestinians, rejects a conflation of anti-Zionism with antisemitism, builds relationships with broader coalitions for justice, and integrates historical narratives acknowledging injustices and seeking just solutions.

We ask our Reform Jewish community to take a stand and commit to the following actions with us:

  1. Call and email your congressional representatives to demand an immediate ceasefire, hostage release, and an end to unconditional U.S. military aid Israel
  2. Join our comrades at aligned organizations in their local and national actions: Palestinian Youth Movement, IfNotNow, Jewish Voice for Peace, Jews for Racial & Economic Justice
  3. Contact your local URJ affiliated synagogue and speak with the rabbinic and lay leadership about your stance, and your desire for rectification.
  4. Contact URJ leadership and continue putting pressure on them to take the stance for an immediate ceasefire with this template
  5. Share your stories publicly, or anonymously, as a way to place continued pressure on the leaders of the movement, and demand accountability
  6. Join together and create expectations for your local community &/or synagogue
  7. Invest in projects and organizations that promote justice for Palestinians; connect to local organizations and amplify Palestinian narratives.

We recognize the difficulties associated with these requests. A lack of awareness from our movement cannot keep us silent or isolated. We are not alone, and we will continue to know that our safety is only conditional on the liberation of all peoples.

As Jews raised in the Reform movement, we are morally injured by the Reform movement’s denial of Palestinian rights and humanity, and its de facto support for Netanyahu’s, and his supporters, plausible genocide. We actively stand against the immoral statements and actions of the Reform Jewish movement. We reject the behaviors of the Union for Reform Judaism led by Rabbi Rick Jacobs & Jennifer Kaufman, the Religious Action Center, Association of Reform Zionists of America (ARZA), Women of Reform Judaism, Men of Reform Judaism, Hebrew Union College, and all other associated organizations. Additionally, we denounce the following organizations who stand in support of the ongoing genocide:  AIPACADLAJC, the IDF. We condemn the following trends that have become central to the culture created by the URJ:

Their tent will not enable inaction.
